Nils Frahm builds “Says” around a single synthesizer arpeggio that loops for the entire eight minutes, over which he adds a slow piano figure that enters at the two-minute mark and does not fully resolve until the very end. The arpeggio is the pressure system. The piano is the front moving through.
It is the clearest example in Frahm’s catalog of his ability to make modern classical music that behaves like weather rather than like composition. Nothing changes much and everything changes completely. Put it on in a room with a window and watch the light fall.
